The most common side effects are gastrointestinal: nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, and abdominal discomfort. These tend to be worse in the first few weeks and when you increase your dose, and usually settle as your body adjusts to the medication. Think of it like moving to a new country: there is an adjustment period whilst your system adapts to new conditions, but most people settle in beautifully once they have acclimatised. Some people also experience fatigue, headaches, or a general feeling of being unwell early on. Some describe feeling as though they have mild flu for the first week or two. This usually improves.
