Missing a dose can happen, especially around travel or busy weeks. What to do next depends on how long it’s been since your usual injection day. Because guidance can differ between Wegovy and Mounjaro and may depend on your dosing schedule, the safest approach is:
- Don’t take an extra dose to “catch up”.
If you’re unsure what to do, contact the prescribing team and tell us:
- which medication you’re taking (Wegovy or Mounjaro)
- your current dose
- the date you last injected
- when you were meant to inject next
We’ll advise you on the best next step for your specific situation. For Wegovy, if a dose is missed, it should be administered as soon as possible and within 5 days after the missed dose. If more than 5 days have passed, the missed dose should be skipped and the next dose should be administered on the regularly scheduled day. You can then resume your regular once weekly dosing schedule. If you miss more doses, reducing the starting dose should be considered and you can contact the pharmacy to discuss this. For Mounjaro, if a dose is missed, it should be administered as soon as possible as long as it’s within 4 days of the missed dose. If it’s more than 4 days, you should skip the missed dose and inject your next dose on the regular day you inject. You can then resume your usual injecting schedule. If you miss more doses, reducing the starting dose should be considered and you can contact the pharmacy to discuss this.
Try not to worry — this happens. It also helps to declare the pause in your Monthly Check-in so a prescriber can confirm the right timing and next dose.
In the check-in, be ready to confirm:
- how long you’ve paused (1 week or 2 weeks)
- your last dose date
- any brief notes (optional) on why you paused
A prescriber may contact you to confirm the safest plan, especially if you’ve had side effects or you’re unsure when to restart. If you did have any questions you can give us a call to speak with one of our prescribers. You can call the prescribers at any time between 10am and 5pm, Monday to Friday on 03330 34 24 38 and select option 3 to get through to them.
