We get asked this question so much! In short, yes. But remember, alcoholic drinks can be high in calories, which will make it harder to lose weight. The key thing is that everything is about balance and moderation. Many people do report that their desire to drink alcohol diminishes while they are on GLP-1s. In fact, scientists have been very interested by this and are considering exploring whether it might also help people with alcohol problems.
We would recommend you reduce your alcohol intake when you start to take weight loss medication so you can see how your body responds to it. It will also help to minimise the risk of side effects such as nausea and vomiting.
Current government guidelines recommend no more than 14 units of alcohol per week, spread across 3 or more days. We recommend limiting your alcohol intake and encourage patients to try and incorporate a few days a week that are alcohol-free.
