The ice pack is to keep your medication cool while it's being delivered – in hot weather they may not arrive ‘frozen’ but are designed to cool your pen on the journey. The wool can be composted or used for pet beds. The ice-packs can be cut open and drained before recycling the plastic. It can be normal for ice packs to be partially thawed by the time your parcel arrives. The cold chain packaging (insulation and coolant) is designed to keep the medication within a safe temperature range during transit, including up to two delivery attempts.
We include ice packs as an extra safety measure in case there’s a delay in delivery, it’s warm in the delivery van, or you want a little flexibility before you start using the pen.
What to do when it arrives:
Open the parcel as soon as possible and put the pen straight in the fridge (between 2°C and 8°C).
Check the pen has not been exposed to heat (for example, left somewhere warm or in direct sunlight).
If you’re unsure, or the parcel arrived late, damaged, or the pen felt warm/hot, please contact us before using it.
For reassurance: both Wegovy and Mounjaro can tolerate limited time out of the fridge (below 30°C), but the exact allowance depends on the medication and the pen. Always follow the patient leaflet that comes with your pen.
