While the needle for weight loss medications is very small and fine, it can still cause a small bruise. While it’s nothing to worry about, it can be unsightly. As you get better at your technique, you will hopefully find that you bruise less. Some people find that Arnica, a herbal remedy you can get from pharmacies and health food shops, can help. This comes in a gel or cream you can apply to the area.
Here are some more tips for reducing the risk of bruising:
Change injection sites
Use different spots each time you inject.
Inject a little further out from the centre of the belly
As some people bruise more easily the closer they inject to the belly button.
Flatten your skin
If needed, make the skin flat, but don't pinch it.
Inject at a 90-degree angle
Insert the needle straight in. This reduces pain and makes the process smoother.
Use Ice
Apply ice to the injection site for 30 seconds before injecting.
This numbs the skin and minimises pain, and it can also help prevent bruising.
